SHSU makes Top Online Bachelor’s Programs list

Sam Houston State University made the Online Bachelor’s Programs Honor Roll in US News and World Report’s recent survey of Online Education Programs. SHSU was rated #2 in Student Services and Technology just behind Arizona State.

Brother Greg Mayo - Distinguished Educator of the Year

53 Congratulations are in order for brother Thomas Greg Mayo (SHSU 1987) who was recently named the 2011 Distinguished Educator of the Year - Secondary Teacher by Sam Houston State University’s School of Education. Greg was recognized for “expertise and outstanding service in the classroom, school, district and community, as well as their contributions to the field and society.”

Sam Houston Statue Bathed in Bearkat Orange

55 Photo by Gene ChauvinIn support of the Sam Houston State University Bearkat football program, the City of Huntsville will light the Sam Houston statue in orange for tomorrow night’s playoff game. According to City of Huntsville Community Services Director Matt Lumpkins, the statue will remain orange as long as the Bearkats are in the playoffs. “Using orange lenses over the spotlights we have on the Sam Houston statue, the City will turn Sam orange for the playoff game,” Lumpkins said.

SHSU is One of the Top Colleges With the Least Student Debt

Each year, U.S. News & World Report releases a list of the nation’s best colleges. In the 2012 edition, they also included a ranking based on the amount of debt the class of 2010 had upon graduation. This year, Sam Houston State University ranked 2nd amongst the Colleges With the Least Student Debt.

  • Percentage of graduates with debt: 46%
  • Average amount of debt: $7,602

Swearing-in Ceremony for Mayor Mac Woodward

The ‘swearing-in’ ceremony for Brother Mac Woodward as the new mayor of Huntsville, Texas will be held Tuesday, December 6th, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at the Huntsville City Hall, 1212 Avenue M. Huntsville, Texas.

There will also be a Reception at 5:00 p.m., prior to the ceremony. Brothers are encouraged to attend.

SHSU hits another enrollment record

Sam Houston State University’s enrollment continues to grow and break records, with campus officials estimating that about 17,618 students are attending SHSU this fall.

That number accounts for a 2 percent growth over last fall, when enrollment was 17,214…
