5 Brothers to be Initiated this Sunday

This Sunday, August 29th at 7:45 P.M., we will be having an initiation ceremony at the lodge for Sean Kelley, Mark Manino, Mike Rithchie, Sam Lockett, and Jonathan Lee. As you all know the initiation ceremony is a very important and meaningful ceremony for these guys to be welcomed into our house of friendship. So I would like to encourage as many alumni as possible to come out and experience this wonderful occasion with our new initiates.

Well, guys.....

That phone call that I've been waiting for finally came in... !!! My buddy down at the VA just called and informed me that next Tuesday (August 24th) I am to be there at 5:00 AM, prepared to have my heart surgery done. Dr. Chu will be repairing the aneurysm in my aorta as well as replacing my aortic valve.

‘True Merit’ Of SHSU ATOs Recognized

SHSU's chapter of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity was recently recognized during the organization's national awards ceremony. With chapter members are (from left) Walt Hughes, national president of ATO; Orin Covell, president the ATO alumni association; Colton Jackson, SHSU chapter treasurer; Josh Hawley, SHSU chapter vice president; Price Howard, SHSU chapter president; and Wynn Smiley, ATO fraternity CEO.

SHSU’s Alpha Tau Omega fraternity was recognized for its “True Merit” during the organization’s national awards ceremony, held in Orlando, Fla., on Aug. 7.

“The True Merit cup is awarded to the chapters that achieve a very high and effective level of operations, excel at recruitment, community and campus involvement and who’s members embody true merit and high level of excellence in their daily activities,” said Brandon Cooper, ATO chapter adviser and assistant director for Student Activities.

Under current IRS regulations your contributions to the active Z M Chapter at Sam Houston State, or to our Z M Alumni Association are not allowable deductions. I suggest that if you are seeking a tax deduction, that you consider a gift to the ATO Foundation, for the benefit of the active Zeta Mu Chapter. The Foundation maintains an account for the benefit of the Z M Chapter. Funds from that account helped send three members of the chapter to LeaderShape 2010 this year. The Chapter's access to these funds requires approval of the Chapter BOT.

Texas Zeta Mu Wins True Merit

For the first time in our 50 year history, the Texas Zeta Mu chapter of Alpha Tau Omega is taking home the True Merit award from the 2010 ATO Congress in Florida.

The True Merit award is given to the nation's top Chapters "who achieve a level of chapter operation that is worthy of recognition".

Dear Alumni brothers,

Thanks to the generous support through the Zeta Mu Alumni Association, brothers David Kelly, Zach Crowder and myself, attended the May 17-22 session of LeaderShape Institute in Gallant, Alabama. This was the first time any delegates from the Zeta Mu Chapter had attended a LeaderShape conference since re-chartering in 2003.
