Well, guys.....

That phone call that I've been waiting for finally came in... !!!  My buddy down at the VA just called and informed me that next Tuesday (August 24th) I am to be there at 5:00 AM, prepared to have my heart surgery done.  Dr. Chu will be repairing the aneurysm in my aorta as well as replacing my aortic valve.

SHSU's chapter of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity was recently recognized during the organization's national awards ceremony. SHSU’s Alpha Tau Omega fraternity was recognized for its “True Merit” during the organization’s national awards ceremony, held in Orlando, Fla., on Aug. 7.

“The True Merit cup is awarded to the chapters that achieve a very high and effective level of operations, excel at recruitment, community and campus involvement and who’s members embody true merit and high level of excellence in their daily activities,” said Brandon Cooper, ATO chapter adviser and assistant director for Student Activities.

For the first time in our 50 year history, the Texas Zeta Mu chapter of Alpha Tau Omega is taking home the True Merit award from the 2010 ATO Congress in Florida.

The True Merit award is given to the nation's top Chapters "who achieve a level of chapter operation that is worthy of recognition".

Dear Alumni brothers,

Thanks to the generous support through the Zeta Mu Alumni Association, brothers David Kelly, Zach Crowder and myself, attended the May 17-22 session of LeaderShape Institute in Gallant, Alabama. This was the first time any delegates from the Zeta Mu Chapter had attended a LeaderShape conference since re-chartering in 2003.

As many of you know, a MAJOR oil spill has taken place in the Gulf of Mexico. And our brother George Yax is at the forefront of the cleanup operations! His company, AMPOL (American Pollution Control), is hiring employees across the board to work offshore and in land-based operations during this massive undertaking.

Brother Webb K. Melder, who is mayor of Conroe, Texas, has been named chairman of the Municipal Revenue & Finance Committee for the Texas Municipal League.

The Municipal Revenue & Finance Committee formulates positions of legislation scheduled for presentation in the 2011 Texas legislature.

"The Texas Municipal League does a great job representing the cities throughout Texas and I consider it an honor to chair this prestigious committee," said brother Melder upon learning of his appointment by Frank Sturzl, Executive Director of the Texas Municipal League.

Some brothers have requested detailed instructions on how to register for the 2010 Zeta Mu Reunion using this website. Please find step-by-step instructions below.

1. Go to www.atoZM.org - (Congratulations, you're there!)
2. Register (Create new account) and wait for an email with instruction to be sent to you.  Be patient, Brother Matocha has to manually approve new accounts and he’s kinda slow.
3. Login and set your new password.
4. Click on the Register for Reunion 2010  tab
   

Dan Forney and I were chatting about Reunion registration today and he let me know about a display problem with Internet Explorer. After a bit of troubleshooting, it was determined that there is a bug in Internet Explorer that prevented this site from displaying correctly and made the Reunion registration page almost unusable.  We have installed a work-around for the Internet Explorer bug and the site should now display properly.  Let us know if you encounter any further issues!

1 Dons became an official club on the campus of Sam Houston State Teachers College during fall semester of 1955.
2 Dons became ATOs on February 20, 1960.
3 A total of 114 young men became official members of the club during its life span.
