Letter from ATO Zeta Mu's Newly Elected Worthy Master (President)

Dear Alumni Brothers,
Greetings for the New Year and I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday. My name is Price Howard and I am the newly elected President of the Zeta Mu Chapter at Sam Houston State University. While looking forward to my new duties as President, I wanted to quickly advise you of some of the upcoming events and things I wish to accomplish for the upcoming year. First, so that we may become a more acquainted, I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and I have lived in Texas for about ten years. I am currently a junior studying Psychology with a minor in Marketing. I am the Assistant Special Events Coordinator for the Student Activities Office at Sam Houston as well as a co-owner of my own party tours company. I joined the Chapter in the spring of 2007 and have since served as Treasurer and Pledgemaster of ATO as well as Treasurer and Vice President of the Interfraternity Council (IFC).
Being elected President of the fraternity is a great honor and I am looking forward to an exciting semester filled with quality brotherhood and accomplishment as we move into our first year as partners with the United Way. On Saturday, March 20, 2010, we will host the First Annual Tom Hart United Way Memorial Golf Classic at Raven's Nest Golf Club in Huntsville, Texas. I have attached a flyer and tournament signup sheet for your review and hope that you will give serious consideration to participating if you can. If physical participation is not for you, we also need to raise about $500 in startup funds and would appreciate any donations you would be willing to make toward this cause.
Improving our public relations within the Huntsville community is one of the goals I have for the fraternity and it is important that we get this event advertised and promoted correctly for its ultimate success. We recognize that our alumni are an invaluable base of support for us, so if any of you have special skills, contacts, etc. that would assist in our efforts; we would also be deeply appreciative of your input.
Another goal of for my office is to increase the ATO experience within all of our brothers. Probably like many of you, I pledged the fraternity to gain immediate friends but didn't know the depth of the brotherhood and how much it has meant to so many until I got initiated with alumni in attendance. Last fall, we accepted 21 new members (2nd largest on campus) into the brotherhood and are planning to initiate them at the Lodge on Sunday, January 17th at 6:00pm. Having as many alumni there as possible would be an enormous affirmation of the brotherhood they have worked to become accepted into. Again, we would appreciate being your host if you could make it and refresh your ATO spirit at the same time. [Coat and Tie required] I thank you for your time and if you have any questions, concerns, suggestions or just want toknow what the chapter is up to, please email or call me.
Fraternally yours,
Price Howard

PRICE: It sounds to me that ZM is in great hands. In the dark ages (1963) we had a tradition that may or may not be followed today but seemed important back then. We had a Past Worthy Master plaque that hung on the wall of the house naming the past WMs and their terms in office. Of course, the pledges had to memorize the names and I still do. Several of them are now dead. If this is not being done now, it would be an idea to continue starting with the reestablishment of the Chapter. Just a thought. George Yax
