Dear Alumni brothers,

Thanks to the generous support through the Zeta Mu Alumni Association, brothers David Kelly, Zach Crowder and myself, attended the May 17-22 session of LeaderShape Institute in Gallant, Alabama. This was the first time any delegates from the Zeta Mu Chapter had attended a LeaderShape conference since re-chartering in 2003.

LeaderShape is a leadership development program originally developed by the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and is now run as a separate entity and open to many college and business groups. Over the course of six days, we cultivated our skills, covering topics such as leading with integrity, where we learned why it is important to be a citizen of honesty, trust, persistence, and courage; identifying our core values and what was important for ourselves, whether it was responsibility, determination, accountability, or faith; our leadership personality and how the dominant, influential, steady, and conscientious personality types interact and why each is best for certain tasks of a project; and communication skills while dealing with chaos and change.

We also participated in a low ropes obstacle course where we learned the importance of being able to lean on and trust others. All of this was tied into the main theme of developing a vision for our world, and bringing this vision to reality.

The camp was led by our fraternity’s CEO, Wynn Smiley, and other staff from ATO National Headquarters. While there, we had a chance to meet brothers from chapters all across the country, including Emory University, University of Central Florida, Florida State, and University of Alabama-Huntsville. Girls from the Alpha Gamma Delta and Delta Gamma sororities also attended and it was a definite bonus to have women from the Greek community there and hear their input!

Without a doubt, our week was challenging, fun, and full of learning. We even had a Yankee saying “y’all” by the end of the week. It is our point to bring back this knowledge in a way that benefits our brothers, the chapter, the community, and also glorifies Him. Again, we wanted to express our sincerest thanks and hope for your continued support in the future.

Fraternally yours,

Josh
